Just a quick post as I'm in Brisbane helping my daughter for a few days. Having helped in the clean up in Emerald after the flood and thinking I knew what to expect, I have to tell you that it is still shocking to see (a small part of) the extent of damage to properties here. The street Melanie lives in in Toowong (not affected by the flood) is a thoroughfare and I must say it is terribly sad to see the many many trucks full of flood rubbish going past. My sister lives at Karana Downs and it's usually a beautiful picturesque drive to visit her, but I can't find words to tell you what it's like now. Damage and destruction everywhere!
Life goes on and I must also tell you that it is wonderful to see everyone rallying to help in any way they can and the army of volunteers is amazing.
Toni Coward from Make It Perfect has organised an on-line auction to help raise funds for the Queensland Flood Appeal. There are now hundreds of wonderful items available, so please spend a few minutes looking at what is available and support in any way you can Not only are there items being auctioned, but there's also some wonderful raffles from our favourite designers and quilt makers. http://tonicoward.blogspot.com/2011/01/qld-flood-auctions-master-list.html
One last way to help -this lovely group are arranging sewing kits for those who've lost their own, be sure to contact them if you can help out. http://www.gumtree-designers.com/2011/01/we-need-your-help.html
That's all for now, back in Emerald next week, Bev.
